Namibia Photographic Workshop - Beyond the ordinary - May/June 2028

Discover Namibia Beyond the Ordinary

Africa has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Having grown up in Zululand and spent many years travelling and photographing across Namibia and Botswana, my connection to Africa runs deep.

Namibia, in particular, continues to draw me back.

It is a country of extraordinary contrasts — a place where vast desert landscapes meet the cold, unforgiving Atlantic Ocean, where ancient mountains rise from endless gravel plains, and where wildlife has adapted to survive in some of the harshest environments on Earth.

Over the years, I have travelled extensively through Namibia in search of those special places and photographic opportunities that lie beyond the obvious. From breathtaking desert landscapes and towering dunes to desert-adapted wildlife, Namibia offers an almost endless canvas for photographers.

A Land of Extraordinary Photographic Opportunities

Namibia is a landscape and wildlife photographer's paradise.

Along the Skeleton Coast, the powerful Atlantic Ocean meets one of the world's most remote coastlines, scattered with the weathered remains of shipwrecks. Here, desert-adapted lions and elusive brown hyenas survive in an environment where few would expect large predators to thrive.

Around Walvis Bay, thousands of pink flamingos gather in the shallow waters and salt pans, creating spectacular opportunities for both wildlife and abstract photography.

Further south, the deep red sands of the Kalahari provide a dramatic backdrop for wildlife and cultural photography. The region is also home to the San people, whose deep connection with the land stretches back for generations and whose ancient rock art provides a glimpse into a remarkable cultural history.

There are opportunities to get down low and photograph the charismatic meerkats of the Kalahari, creating intimate images from their unique perspective.

Further north, the remote landscapes of Kaokoland provide opportunities to photograph some of Namibia's most iconic desert-adapted wildlife, including the critically endangered black rhinoceros.

These are just some of the experiences that make Namibia a destination that continues to inspire photographers from around the world.

Beyond the Iconic Locations

Many of Namibia's most photographed locations have been captured thousands — perhaps millions — of times.

There is nothing wrong with photographing the iconic locations. They are iconic for a reason, and experiencing them for the first time can be incredibly rewarding.

However, this workshop has been designed to offer something different.

Rather than simply following the well-worn photographic trail, we will explore lesser-known areas and seek out hidden photographic opportunities within the vast Namibian landscape.

My aim is to take a small group of like-minded photographers beyond the standard tourist experience and encourage a more adventurous approach to landscape and wildlife photography.

We will still visit some of Namibia's iconic locations, particularly where they offer exceptional photographic opportunities, but we will also venture away from the crowds in search of something different.

The goal is not simply to photograph Namibia.

It is to experience it, explore it and create images that are uniquely your own.

Landscapes of Namib Rand, that stir the soul.

A Workshop Designed Around Photography

The workshop will primarily focus on Namibia's extraordinary landscapes, combined with opportunities to photograph the country's remarkable desert-adapted wildlife.

We will make the most of the beautiful early-morning and late-afternoon light, explore different perspectives and compositions, and look for opportunities to create images that capture the character and atmosphere of this extraordinary country.

Whether you are passionate about landscape photography, wildlife photography, or simply want to experience Namibia through a camera, this adventure is designed to provide an unforgettable photographic journey.

Most importantly, this will be a small-group experience, allowing us to spend more time in the field and create a relaxed environment where photographers can learn, experiment and share their passion for photography.
